Goldstream Provincial Park, spanning 477 hectares, was established in 1958 when the Greater Victoria Water Board transferred the land to the province, with additional expansions in 1994 and 1996. The park protects a diverse ecosystem, including rare flora like the Dense Spike Primrose and Pacific Waterleaf, and fauna such as black bears, cougars, and bald eagles. From late October to December, the Goldstream River hosts a world-class Chum salmon run, attracting thousands of salmon and hundreds of eagles to feast on the carcasses. The Freeman King Visitor Centre offers educational programs on the salmon migration and local history, including the park’s gold rush past—abandoned mine shafts from the 1860s are visible along trails. Mount Finlayson, a 417-meter peak, provides a challenging hike with panoramic views, while the campground offers 159 reservable sites with amenities like showers and picnic areas.
